It is my least favorite of the three, but stands a good chance at winning the top prize because of its PGA win. It is a film that has built a loyal and solid fanbase since its first presss screenings at the AFI Film Fest back in very late November. There are movies that are just meant to be seen on the big silver screen. The Big Short will be the biggest contender for The Revenant. It pays to watch this film on the biggest screen you can find and do NOT, I repeat DO NOT watch this on a small screen laptop or even a big flat screen tv. Much of that is on display in this official documentary, which offers a fascinating look at the making of the Leonardo DiCaprio film while also highlighting a couple of areas of importance: the indigenous peoples that the production encountered while making the movie, and the severe effects of climate change that made the shoot so tricky  when they were expecting snow, they got no snow, and eventually had to move the production to down near Antarctica in order to find the snow cover needed to shoot the film’s ending. Of course, if my other picks are correct, then The Big Short would become the first best picture winner since 1952’s The Greatest Show on Earth to win only one other Oscar. But what a wonderful visual cinematic experience.
